Limitations and things to watch for
- Hashtags are matched as a # followed by letters, digits and underscores, including non-Latin scripts. A tag containing a space or punctuation is truncated at that point, which is also how social platforms treat it.
- Hashtags typed with different capitalisation are different strings unless you enable lowercasing, even though most platforms treat them as the same tag.
- A # used as a shorthand for "number", as in "#1 seller", will be matched as a hashtag.
Frequently asked questions
Does it count how often each hashtag was used?
Yes. When duplicate removal is enabled, each tag is listed once with the number of times it appeared.
Can it extract mentions too?
Yes — turn on the mentions option to include @handles alongside the hashtags.
Are non-English hashtags supported?
Yes. Matching is Unicode-aware, so tags in Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic and other scripts are found.
