Limitations and things to watch for

  • The address shown is the one our server receives. Behind a home router, a corporate NAT or a mobile network this is the shared public address of the gateway, not the private address of your device.
  • A VPN, proxy or corporate egress point will show that service address rather than your own.
  • Your address is displayed to you and not stored in a database, though it appears in standard web-server access logs as it would for any website.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this different from the address on my computer?
Your device usually has a private address such as 192.168.1.5 from your router. The public address shown here is the one your router or provider presents to the internet, shared by every device on the connection.
Does this page track me?
No. Your address is displayed and not stored in any database. Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard access logs.
Why do I have an IPv6 address?
Because your provider supports IPv6 and your device preferred it for this connection. Both protocols work; IPv6 addresses are longer and written in hexadecimal.
How do I hide my IP address?
A reputable VPN or the Tor network replaces the address a website sees with theirs. Neither makes you anonymous by itself, since accounts, cookies and browser fingerprinting still identify you.
